I'm part of the CAS team, or Central Audit Support Team, at EY. That means I work with my colleagues to provide administrative support to EY's auditors. For example, we receive requests to fine-tune audit reports, contracts or other documents and deliver them to the appropriate parties. The best part of this job is the fact that I can be very precise in the process. I'm a very organised person and feel great satisfaction when I can finish things to perfection. This applies to the way a document is written, as well as language and typographical errors in different languages. I really enjoy working with language, and being able to develop that linguistic knack even more is a big plus to the job. Although our job is mostly about details, I also find that a great responsibility. If we do our job well, a file can go right out the door.
In addition to good language skills, extensive know-how of Microsoft Word is an absolute must. Outlook is another program you need to know through and through. Because EY's CAS team is spread across the various offices in Belgium, good communication skills are also indispensable, as are a professional attitude and the ability to work independently.
The fact that there's little room for mistakes naturally makes the job challenging. On top of that, your hard work is not always visible and overtime will not always be avoidable. But those are only minor downsides compared to the satisfaction I get when I've been able to finish a document very precisely and therefore both the auditor and the external client approve it from the first time. The growth opportunities within the company - both horizontal and vertical - are also motivating. I do see myself as a strong right-hand man for an executive and feel that I can use that quiet strength to the fullest in this position.
